Overweight and obesity are the scourge of people in almost all countries of the world. Physical inactivity, widespread unhealthy fast food – all this leads to obesity and health problems. At the same time, weight loss is a problem for many. Compliance with a low-calorie diet is a long and not very pleasant process, moreover, fraught with complications due to imbalance of micro- and macronutrients.
In this regard, the search for methods for effective and safe weight loss is very relevant. One of the most modern and promising methods is the use of protein meal replacements as part of a low-calorie diet. It provides visible results in just two weeks. In addition, a protein-based meal replacement diet is balanced in terms of nutrients that a person needs.
Clinical studies of the Herbalife weight loss program under the guidance of Professor of the Department of Nutrition of the Russian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, MD H. Sharafetdinov, who went to the Research Institute of Nutrition of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, convincingly prove that the use of a protein shake Formula 1 and a protein mixture Formula 3 leads to noticeable results. After two months of the diet, the participants noted:
- decrease in body weight by an average of 7kg
- decrease in BMI by 2.4 kg / m 2
- reduction of the waist by 5cm
- reduction in hips by 4.5 cm
- reduction of fat mass by 10%
- in half of the cases – a decrease in clothing by 2 sizes.
The study involved women with abdominal obesity of different age groups.
It is very important that the visible result was achieved by all participants in the study after two weeks. The quick effect motivates patients to continue to adhere to the weight loss program, and the variety of flavors of protein shakes keeps it from becoming boring for a long time.
The use of protein meal replacements as part of a low-calorie diet is an effective practice not only for nutritionists, but also for doctors of other specialties. It is well known that being overweight leads to the aggravation of many health problems and increases the risk of various diseases: diabetes, coronary heart disease, arthrosis and others. Correction of the weight of patients with therapeutic, gastroenterological, cardiological and endocrinological profiles can significantly improve their quality of life and increase the effectiveness of treatment.
It has also been proven that the doctor’s interest in a comprehensive solution to the problems of overweight additionally motivates the patient to follow the recommendations and recover. (Journal of General Internal Medicine, 2015, V.30, Issue 2, 207-213).
